what's the word

The Wildfire book is an important work of social history, charting the impact of a global youth movement on the lives of young Australians in the decades before the growth of the Internet and social media. Through a dense archive of images, it shows the evolution of graffiti in Adelaide, drawing together art, fashion and music. Wildfire is meticulously crafted, the book itself showing the endpoint of graffiti writers as adept designers, custodians of a subculture and historians of an age.

Picked this up the other day and I couldn’t speak more highly of it if I tried. It’s the history of graffiti in Adelaide, which ends up being, in effect, a history of Hip Hop culture in Adelaide.

This incredible document of the Adelaide graffiti scene just arrived. This book is a comprehensive look at how the graffiti movement took off in Adelaide, from the early breakdancing days at Downtown through to the painted whole cars on the Red Hen trains in the city. The pieces that first appeared on the train lines before my time had always been a mix of mystery and myth for me and this book has given a new clarity and meaning to this history!
